Why do we need to sort slates on site?

Sorting natural slate on site is the final step in the process of producing a beautiful, even roof out of a natural product.

Each slate is slightly different in texture, thickness and flatness. The finished roof will look superior if the thicker slates are used at the eaves and the thinner slates to the ridge, with mediums to the middle of the slope. Some more textured slates may need more sorting than thinner smoother slates. It also depends on the overall appearance required.

Whichever grade of slate you choose, don’t under estimate the value and importance of a skilled slater. A good slater can make a poor slate look good, but a poor slater can make a good slate look poor. Find out more about sorting and storing slate on site.
